ACID RAP is Now on All Streaming Services (Was It Inspired By Acid?)

(CNN) Chance the Rapper is releasing his “10Day” and “Acid Rap” mixtapes on all streaming platforms, so maybe we bandwagon fans can finally get what these pre-Coachella Chanceheads are talking about. On Thursday, Chance announced on social media that the projects will be joining 2016 mixtape “Coloring Book” on all streaming platforms. Previously, “10Day” (2012) and “Acid Rap” (2013) had been released free on Soundcloud. Now, they’ll be available on Apple Music, Spotify and other services.

JUICE is absent from the album tho due to an uncleared John Lennon sample

(Complex) “Chance shared the news on the song’s placeholder, delivering a spoken-word explanation where he clarified the song’s absence. “I really wanted ‘Juice’ to be on the mixtape, but I couldn’t get it cleared in time,” he says. He’s referring to the Donny Hathaway “Jealous Guy” sample that was originally written by John Lennon and which appears in the beat for “Juice,” track 4 on the original tape. According to Billboard, after Lennon died in 1980, his work has seldom been approved for sample clearances.”

In my humble opinion, ACID RAP is the most creative hip hop release of the last 10 years. Chance’s rhyme schemes and flow on every track were like nothing I had ever heard before and he was only 20 years old at the time of it’s release. When it was released, Kanye had long moved on from the “old kanye” and Chicago was more in the spotlight for Chief Keef’s brand of murder rap

but with Acid Rap, Chicago once again became the epicenter for “soul” in Hip Hop.

Now I’m sure most of you are well aware that many rock musicians credit acid, otherwise known as LSD, for contributing to some of their most creative work. Jimmi Hendrix and Grateful Dead are a couple musicians that come to mind. The Beatles consider acid to have been a major influence on their “Revolver” album. Listen to thing song and try to tell me otherwise.

So I assume some of you are wondering, did ACID contribute to the groundbreaking creativity of ACID Rap? Lets ask the man himself.

(MTV) “[There] was a lot of acid involved in Acid Rap,” he said, chuckling. “I mean, it wasn’t too much — I’d say it was about 30 to 40 percent acid … more so 30 percent acid.” So naturally, we had to ask: Was it difficult to rap under that influence?

“No, it’s not hard to rap on acid,” he responded matter-of-factly. “But it wasn’t the biggest component at all. It was something that I was really interested in for a long time during the making of the tape, but it’s not necessarily a huge faction at all. It was more so just a booster, a bit of fuel. It’s an allegory to acid, more so than just a tape about acid.”

His first mixtape ever, 10 DAY, is also now available on streaming websites. I haven’t listened to this one the whole way through but a fun fact about this project is that it was recorded while Chance spent 10 day on suspension after getting caught with weed on his high school campus.
